A young Chinese social media influencer whose extraordinary height made her an internet sensation has died at the age of 26, just as she was preparing for surgery to treat a brain tumor.

The woman, known online as Xiaoyue, died at her home in Sichuan Province, China, on October 11, 2026.

Her partner, Zihao, announced her death on Douyin, China’s popular short-video platform, and shared documentation confirming her passing, according to reporting by VnExpress International.

Although Xiaoyue had been diagnosed with several serious medical conditions, the precise cause of her sudden death has not been publicly established.

A Couple Whose Height Difference Captured Online Attention

Standing approximately 2.2 meters, or 7 feet 2 inches tall, Xiaoyue attracted attention for her unusual stature and the videos she shared with her partner.

Zihao, who stands approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, frequently appeared alongside Xiaoyue in videos documenting their daily lives.

Their significant height difference became a defining feature of their social media presence, attracting viewers who were curious about their relationship and experiences.

By October 12, Xiaoyue’s Douyin account had attracted approximately 90,000 followers, while Zihao had around 146,000.

In October 2025, the couple publicly announced the arrival of a child. However, some aspects of their online family life were questioned by viewers and have not been independently confirmed.

Following Xiaoyue’s death, her older sister asked the public to respect the family’s privacy rather than continue speculating about personal matters.

Serious Medical Problems Behind the Public Attention

While followers knew Xiaoyue for her remarkable height and cheerful personality, she had reportedly been dealing with significant medical challenges.

According to statements attributed to Zihao, doctors identified several conditions, including:

  • Pituitary gigantism
  • A pituitary tumor
  • A meningioma, a tumor arising from the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord
  • Secondary diabetes and elevated blood sugar
  • Kidney failure

Zihao reportedly disclosed the tumor diagnoses in July 2026.

The couple had hoped Xiaoyue would undergo surgery, but her blood sugar needed to be better controlled before the planned operation.

He later explained that they had traveled to the countryside so she could rest while awaiting further treatment.

Tragically, she died before surgery could take place.

The presence of these medical conditions does not establish which, if any, directly caused her death.

Understanding Pituitary Gigantism: Why Someone May Grow Exceptionally Tall

Xiaoyue’s reported diagnosis of pituitary gigantism offers important medical context for her extraordinary height.

Pituitary gigantism is a rare endocrine disorder that occurs when the body produces excessive growth hormone during childhood or adolescence, before the growth plates of the long bones have closed.

The pituitary gland, a small structure at the base of the brain, regulates growth and several other important hormonal functions.

In many cases, gigantism results from a growth-hormone-secreting pituitary adenoma, usually a benign tumor.

Excess growth hormone stimulates the production of insulin-like growth factor 1, or IGF-1, primarily in the liver. IGF-1 promotes tissue and skeletal growth.

When growth hormone remains excessively elevated before adulthood, the result may be unusually rapid linear growth and exceptional adult height.

After the growth plates close, prolonged growth hormone excess produces a related condition called acromegaly, characterized by enlargement of the hands, feet, jaw, and other tissues rather than increased height.

Potential Health Complications

Although gigantism is often recognized because of exceptional height, its medical consequences can extend far beyond physical appearance.

Depending on the severity, duration, and cause of growth hormone excess, patients may develop insulin resistance, diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular complications, sleep apnea, joint problems, and other health concerns.

Pituitary tumors may also cause headaches, visual disturbances, or hormonal abnormalities, particularly when their size affects surrounding structures.

Treatment depends on the underlying condition and may include surgery, medication, or radiation therapy.

Importantly, not every patient experiences the same complications, and Xiaoyue’s publicly reported diagnoses are insufficient to determine the mechanism of her death.

Surgery That Never Took Place

According to Zihao, the couple had been preparing for an operation to address Xiaoyue’s pituitary tumor.

He reportedly believed the planned minimally invasive procedure would be relatively straightforward, based on information he said he had received.

However, the operation was delayed while doctors worked to improve her blood sugar levels.

Xiaoyue died suddenly on October 11, before the planned medical intervention could proceed.

Her death highlights the uncertainty that families can face while navigating serious illness, but there is no publicly established evidence that an earlier operation would have prevented her death.

Remembering the Person Behind the Headlines

In accounts published following her death, Zihao described Xiaoyue as cheerful and someone who did not allow hurtful comments about her appearance to dominate her life.

Her unusual height had made her recognizable online, but public attention also exposed her to skepticism and speculation.

Her last reported Douyin video, posted in August, conveyed a message about finding warmth and support despite life’s difficulties.

Following her passing, her family expressed a desire for privacy.

At just 26 years old, Xiaoyue’s life ended far earlier than anyone would have hoped.

Her story is a reminder that behind viral videos and social media attention are real people facing private challenges, health concerns, and difficult decisions.

While her extraordinary height brought her into the public eye, her life deserves to be remembered with dignity and compassion.

VietEcho extends its condolences to Xiaoyue’s family, loved ones, and those mourning her passing.

May she rest in peace.
