Bangkok announces citywide flooding disaster, heavy rains continue
Prolonged rain left streets, homes and shops flooded; weather warnings remain in effect over the weekend.
On September 26, 2026, Bangkok authorities announced a flood disaster in all 50 districts after nearly 48 hours of heavy rains. Some areas recorded rainfall exceeding 300 mm between the afternoon of September 24 and the morning of September 26, according to CNA, citing officials.
The water-filled canal system makes it difficult to drain. About 980 people went to shelters; 36 bedridden patients were transferred to hospitals.
Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said the city could need two to three days to drain if the rains stopped. This time depends on the course of the weather.
The Thai Meteorological Agency has warned of heavy to heavy rain for September 26-27 due to the low pressure area and stronger southwest monsoons. The risk includes flash floods, spills and landslides, especially in depressions and areas near the foot of mountains.
The warning indicates that the situation is not over although drainage works are being carried out.
